THE ART OF WRITING: ORHAN PAMUK

Ferit Orhan Pamuk was born on 7th of June in the year 1952. He is a Turkish author, scriptwriter, academic and receiver of the 2006 Nobel Prize in the field of Literature. One of Turkey's most noticeable novelists, his work has been able to sell more than 11 million books in around 60 languages, making him the country's chart-topping writer. Pamuk has written well known novels that include The White Castle, The Black Book, The New Life, My Name Is Red, Snow and The Museum of Innocence.

He has been the Robert Yik-Fong Tam Lecturer in the Humanities at Columbia University, where he gives grounding in writing and relative literature. He was born in Istanbul to Circassian parents. Pamuk is considered to be the first Turkish Nobel laureate. He has also been the addressee of many other literary awards. During this lifespan of 4 decades, Mevlut works in a variety of jobs during the day time and then manages to sell boza during the winter nights. Throughout these decades, Mevlut observes the numerous makeovers that the city, the societies and Turkey experience. All the while, Mevlut frequently surprises at the basis of this “strangeness” in his mind is – a strangeness that sets him apart from the rest. The beautiful novel is a story told from the perceptions of various characters and is intended to be one of the most extensively read novels of Pamuk and is also considered to be one of his ultimate achievements.
